STONEWALL WAS A RIOT tote bag featuring American actress Judy Garland (1922-1969) as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (1939). Judy, who was an icon for the gay community of the time, died on June 22, 1969 and her funeral was held hours before the Stonewall Riots started. According to the legend, when the police raided the Stonewall Inn, people in the bar used their grief over Judy’s death to rise up and fight back.
